Visualize to Materialize
That was the clear and elated message I heard in my head as soon as I walked into a women’s networking lunch in Houston in the Fall of 2018. I had just started getting out of the house after 18 months of “sabbatical” — recovering from an intense Hepatitis-C medical treatment, revitalizing my energy, and nurturing my body back to good health.
At that networking lunch, I met mixed media artist Nicole Bray, who was promoting vision board workshops. What attracted me was the artwork she presented — a captivating and balanced vision board rendered as a piece of art. I approached Nicole and blurted: “This is a fab idea for a Feng Shui vision board workshop!”
Designing a vision board using Feng Shui principles is the perfect opportunity to learn the fundamentals and apply its method in a practical, creative, and purposeful way.
Feng Shui & The Bagua Map
Feng Shui is about energy flow, balance, transformation, and connection. It’s a design system used to pinpoint all the various aspects of life by harmonizing energy in the areas that impact them. The Bagua map is the primary tool of Feng Shui — a nine-area grid that maps the different life areas onto any space or, in this case, your vision board.
The nine areas of the Bagua map are:
- Wealth & Prosperity — abundance, financial flow, gratitude
- Fame & Reputation — how you are seen, your integrity, your visibility
- Love & Relationships — partnership, self-love, connection
- Family & Foundation — roots, health, community
- Health & Center — wellbeing, balance, grounding
- Children & Creativity — creative projects, joy, playfulness
- Knowledge & Self-Cultivation — learning, wisdom, inner work
- Career & Life Path — purpose, vocation, flow
- Helpful People & Travel — mentors, community, movement
How to Create Your Feng Shui Vision Board
- Set your intention for each of the nine life areas. What do you most want to cultivate in each?
- Gather images and words that resonate with each intention — from magazines, printed photos, or hand-drawn images.
- Map your board using the Bagua layout — place each image in its corresponding life area.
- Add personal touches — your own photos, meaningful symbols, crystals, essential oil drops on the edges.
- Display in a sacred space where you will see it daily. Engage with it consciously each morning as part of your intention practice.
When you design a Feng Shui vision board with purpose, there’s a powerful force that’s put into place — one that organizes your energy, clarifies your desires, and begins to magnetize your intentions into physical reality.
