Q&A with Adora: New Year’s Resolutions & Sustainable Wellness
Q: Can “lose weight” be an achievable and realistic goal?
I think that we ultimately want to FEEL BETTER — better about ourselves, our bodies, our energy, our mood, and our clarity. The concept of “losing weight” focuses on the symptom, not the solution. To feel better, we need to revolutionize how we view our practices on self-care and self-love.
I believe that all change first starts with an invitation. What do you want to invite in for your greater holistic health and wellbeing in this moment as well as this year? Start general. That way, neither the body nor mind can put up a wall of resistance to change.
“I invite in the full expression of my most vibrant, healthy body and being.”
Then, form your intention. Keep this intention fluid and expansive by refraining from a time or weight deadline or goal. Creating a consistent habit practice with this intention and healthy, balanced nutritional and exercise choices will foster positive momentum.
“I give myself permission to be healthy and whole physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually.”
Q: What reframings can help someone achieve wellness as a happy side-effect?
I would ultimately rephrase this to a holistic goal of feeling better and honoring the body as a temple. Our bodies navigate our desires for life and creative expression. They are our conduits for joy, pleasure, and harmony.
5 Realistic Resolutions for Holistic Wellbeing
- Invite, don’t force. Replace “I will lose 20 pounds” with “I invite my body into its most vibrant, energized expression.” Invitation opens; demands close.
- Start with five minutes. A consistent 5-minute daily practice creates more lasting change than an intense 60-minute practice three times a week. Consistency is the master key.
- Nourish, don’t restrict. Focus on adding nourishing foods, movement, and practices — not on what you’re taking away. Abundance thinking rewires the brain more effectively than scarcity.
- Anchor with your senses. Use an essential oil like lemon, black pepper, or peppermint to anchor your wellness intention. The olfactory system bypasses the critical mind and speaks directly to the subconscious, where lasting change lives.
- Celebrate small wins. Every day you drink an extra glass of water, take a walk, or choose nourishment over numbing — celebrate it. Celebration anchors positive neural pathways and makes healthy choices feel good rather than obligatory.
